Me again :)
It is not that it go good with me, but I know when I start something like this and get positive reaction that it give me mood to stay going and don't give up my life...

So this will be the diary of Mirjam, she is a Jersey cow of 2,5 year.
If we find a bull calf, should she give us a calf and milk when she is 3,5 à 4 years old.

When she was born we trained much with contact her body, halter, ...
But when she came 1 year, was it difficult to take or touch her.
Also giving food out the hand.

But when we bring her home back to her mum, she was not scared.
Now, when you can come in the meadow and touch her.
But a halter is still a problem.
So we change them yesterday of meadow, she was free but the other two not.
She was a bit wild, but she came when you call her and she so that we where going away.

Now I start with give her massages but not too long. So I hope she will trust me and like it to see me.
Then will i start with take a line and make her trusting it and so also with the halter.

And i'm still dreaming to teach her AND, dressage :D

It feels realy good to be with her.
I got the same feel as when i'm with Spikkel (my dog), Mira (my donkey) and Rojnaar (Mule)

I hope you go like it to read about us.

05.10.'10 Tuesday

We don't go fast, we take us time.
The problem is that my sister her horse in the same meadow is.
She don't like it when someone else get attention.
So when she come the other run away...
But yesterday evening I got a chance, Mimi was realy curious to me and Ksenia at the other side of the meadow.
So I give her a massage at her back and tail.
She realy likes it, start shaking with her head and licking with her tong.
But she should like it more, when she can take you between her horns when she is shaking. That had much more affect
I think she also feel grow her horns, but there is enough wood in the meadow.
And people are a bit weak :) , only problem was that I go to high in signal to tell her not to do that.
So next time a bit more slowly.
She react realy fast by a small signal.

Is here someone who can help me to find more information about caws.
Or better, how they grow, to what age also about the back etc.
I tried to look on internet, but my english isn't fantastic and in dutch I didn't find anything.
Also books or something is good.

And a bit more information, what age you start with horses to teach them.
I copy a list from '1. Preparation for the Cordeo' and if someone can give me a age I will be happy.
I know, too much is always bad no matter the age.

-Asking the horse to back up
-Turn the hindquarters around the frontlegs
-Turn the frontquarters around the hindlegs
-Backing up and coming towards
-Lifting the legs
-Lowering the head

I will be realy happy with any help.

Mimi is still 2,5 year old is still growing, but she is all taller then her mum.
I have also no idea how much it should be difference with a horse.
Also about the age to let them be pregnant, is it better to wait if they stop with grow or what.
To what do you look by horses, at with age let you get them be pregnant?

I want to take my time with Mimi but if she is ready for some exercise, do I ask me about her body.

Tanks for all the reactions and help.

I suppose there isn't information in books about when you can start training cows. But there has to be something about the growing.
If you want to know titles of books that might contain useful information, I can try to look it up for you. I am studying in Wageningen and am having acces to the library there.

Hi missRivendel, I should be realy happy if you can spend a bit of you time to look for titels of useful books

If I wasn't claer, I wont to know about the age by horses when you start with what and find information of cows in books etc.
So that I can make a combination.

This morning did I take some photos

She is doing realy well, some times she come to us and when you ask her if you can come by her she accept you.
She show it, to bring her head to you, she bring her horns.
She realy like it when you scratch her, behind her horns.
She also accepted my boyfriend...
And some times have we to tell her to go away, she listen good.

I don't know how you call it in English, but the cows are in the time they can get pregnant.
So, Mimi jumped over the fencing to the other cows, it was like 1m20 high.
For the moment we can't bring her back to her meadow, the spring and the rest makes them to wild...

I'm working again with Mimi (Mirjam).
And see that it was like one year ago...
We are working at trusting each other.
And she make really fast progress. I can go to her if she is laying down.
I can touch her body every where only the legs and down the belly is still a problem...
With a cord I can touch her on her back, in the neck she find it a bit scary...
She pout all her nose in the cord and like to play with the halter.
I'm teaching her the 'halt', 'come' and 'back'...
She learn realy fast...
I hope to have fast my camera than I can make movies that is more easy to explain what we are doing and how it is going...

I'm really busy with school, saturday I have my last exam...
So there is not so much time for being with the animals...

But yesterday, when I came at my parents place, they where giving Aby and Mimi a new part of the meadow with grass.
So we help them and at the end they had to go under the electriccable we were holding up...
Mimi was scared so I told my father to walk under it a few times...
But afther one time he did go behind her trying to tell her with is body to go forward.
I told him it dont work... She did walk a way...

Then he took my place and I did go to Mimi, I did great her first, she smell my hand and I schrach her between her horns.
Then I turn and walk under the electriccable, she goes with me...
When she is in the new part she start jumping, running...

I was realy happy that she trust me like that...

Such cute cows! :D

Here is a forum about riding steers....I am sure it has a lot of traditional handling but may give you the information you seek and you can then adapt it to more freindly AND style training

http://ridingsteers.freeforums.org/index.php

It is very interesting to read about training cows (well for me anyway!!!).
So keep the diary going so we can see what you discover :applause:
