Hi again, I am curious as to Lucy's size?
Sid is such an easy keeper...I am trying to find some food treats that are low glycemic index, do have any suggestions?
Hi Carrie,
Lucy is about 16.1 and approximately 1300 - 1400 lbs right now coming out of winter, will probably lose a bit now that spring is upon us and we will be working more, and MAYBE riding some????? So maybe in REALLY good shape she would be 1200-1300 lbs????
I use mostly hay stretcher pellets, large bites. But I will also give a carrot or apple, cut up once in a while. And also, for really hard stuff, like at liberty out in the field or woods, riding, trailer work, farrier visit, etc. I will mix in a commercial treat that is apple flavored hay stretcher pellets (can't remember the name?), no additional sugar, just the sugar from the apples???? so probably not Low GI. I have tried lettuce and broccoli, etc. but they just won't have it!
She gets just about 1+ bale of hay (NOT rich!!) as well as one cup of MVP vitamins and one cup of black oil sunflower seeds (Low GI??) most days, tho sometimes I will use that as treats, depending upon what I am doing.
I feed HANDFULS of hay stretcher when I train so I probably go through about 2 - 3 quarts in say an hour session?????? I usually fill ALL my pockets and my carpenters pouch several times. For Jack too. And I probably work then about 4-5 times a week?? I think 1 pound hay stetcher equals one flake of hay??? so it is really like feeding an extra 3-4 flakes per session????
Hope this helps! Brenda
