I have been trying to follow the news (I had no TV) knowing that conditions in Australia with the terrible flooding in the northeast (Queensland) have gotten worse and that the loss of life of humans is likely outpaced in numbers by the loss of domestic livestock.

I had hoped, with some receding around Brisbane, coming to an end, but today there are more flood warnings in other areas even while cleanup recovery efforts are going on in some areas.

Horses, ponies, donkeys, small pets, have been falling prey to the flood-waters in terrible numbers.

Please, those of you that are members of AND and from Australia keep us aware of how you and yours are doing. We can at least send you our concern and hopefully some comfort as you deal with this catastrophe.

Know you have our love and concern for you all.

This is beginning to feel like trying to understand the scope of the limitless universe. I see the news using analogies of the area of flooding as being the size of two large U.S. states, or a couple of European countries.

Yesterday morning the news was that some areas had crested and the waters were subsiding, but along with that, the news was that yet another area was about to be inundated - as though the sequence of floods just isn't going to stop anytime soon.

On the ECushings list the poster who signs as "Suzie of Oz," left this message:

"
Here is an official Government site that offers ways to donate to the flood
appeal if that's your wish, and also warns about scam sites and what to do
to avoid donating to the wrong sorts of places -
http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html
"
