I decided here would be the best place for this link, moderators, please feel free to move it if needed.

I read Horseboy about 4 months ago, a heart warming but also a very sad book. It is about autistic boy and his connection to horses and how a father finds the courage to travcel through Mongolia on horseback to find shamans that can help his son. It is truly amazing story based on a true story. I have just found a link for watching the movie online. If anybody is interested:

Since I have Ino, I hear nothing but the word autistic, while before I never heard it nor knew what it was other then ‘people who are different in some manner’

I want to read the book and see the movie too… Next week an autistic boy is coming to meet the horses, hopefully I’ll learn something.

I have it the other way around… where can I go with my autistic horse boy?
I sometimes really think that releasing him into a large free herd would be best… horses will know what to do… they always do… they could fix my Ino…

Josepha, the book is amazing. I admire the father for doing this and after reading this book and Tao of Equus and seeing the movie (the movie is not as detailed as the book, I recommend to read the book first, or in any case the book is a must!) your thinking about Ino is right. It seems horses know more about autism or how to communicate to autistic people better than humans. I ve lent the book to a friend right now, but if you want I can lend it to you next, just let me know in PM or smth, I can send it to you once I have it back.Edit OK I read your diary, now I see Ino is a horse? Sorry. I thought it is a boy with autism. But in any case, you mentioned you have an autism boy coming soon. Let me read about Ino, fascinating.

I learned so much with this book, the book is real and not made 'to look better' than it is...

One interesting idea hit me when I was watching the movie - you know when you are doing something to a horse and they just ignore you? They are not interested and they have the look that they dont hear or see you?? Children with autism do that, but amazingly enough if they are in a state like this, in the their own world, the horses drag them back into real world. I also heard there are similarities in the way children with autism and horses think. I have always been fascinated by the mental horse therapy. I would love to learn more, Josepha, please do share!

I do not think I am the one to teach here. Ask me about horse culture and Psych, biomechanics and dressage... I can teach you a lot for sure.

But with Ino I am at a loss, he does not seem like a horse at all.
He even puzzles Owen and he makes Owen very tired but he got much more out of him then I ever could in a million years.
Don Jamie just gave up on him totally, but I think it is because he is not so young and his troubles of his own.

I do realise that Ino is in my life to help me learn much much more.
But the danger for my family is what worries me...

But i do see the paralles between an autistic person and an abused horse who in his prey mind 'should have died'... and one can only die once.
The prey that is horse dies many times in human world until they seem truly dead in their connection with the outside world.
I could get any normal horse out of that and bring him back to live... but I can't with Ino... why can't I?
I am missing something, lacking something... I feel that autistic reseach is the way to go.

So thank you for this! :)

And if any questions about Ino, just shoot, I'll be happy to answer.

exactly the same parallel I thought of watching the movie. I think we are thinking in the right direction here. I ll answer the rest in Ino's diary.

Have you watched this movie yet? I'm just watching it now. I burst into tears the moment they sat Rowan on a horse.
If anyone had trouble with the movie playing (I did) this link worked for me:

Edit...later....

I just finished watching the movie. Very, very powerful. I cried again. So lovely.

Karen, you should read the book!! The book is even stronger!

Yes the movie is a great insight as well, when the boy sits on betsy and when gallops bareback... ehhh I was in tears. Lovely lovely, but so realistic and honest. Respect to his parents :thumright:

I was given this book for my birthday and I have to say I can't put it down.

I also have so much empathy for the father and respect that he did something.

Does anyone know where Rowan is at today? Maybe I should search for a blog????
Interesting that Temple comes up again!!!!
