I wasn't sure if it was go work for the donkey's but it should sure work for the goats.
But it also works for the donkeys.

I think it is usefull for all the animals wihtout horns ;)
It is easy and handy. :)

Ronjaar was scared of it in the begin, but now...

They can't walk anymore on the hay so they eat all...

I'm only thinking to made a roof up on it.

It was like this
http://carchem.co.uk/images/IBC_1.jpg
The only problem was that they did use it for oil.
So we took the ton (plastick) out and cut it into two pieces...
We spend much time to clean it, and now we use it for collecting water in the meadows.

I would be curious to read of anyone's experience using this device. My Altea, a voracious feeder, is very violent with her containers. I believe she would take that one apart in about half a day or less. But then they do have it chained down, and I take it, fastened to the fence behind.

I use a Busy bag, Busy Grande in fact, with 1.5 in (3.81 cm) openings. It's very strong material with heavy sewing and fasters.

So far it's over a year old and still going strong for her.

But a container like the one pictured might work even better. She's on a strict diet of low sugar/starch hay, and so needs to have food almost all the time, but in small amounts.

I saw the smaller container like Inge shows before as a hay feeder. (By the way, we do not have one ha ha !).
I can't believe that works with a lot of horses, Owen would mess up and destroy that thing before you could say 'hay'...

Here we don't have a problem with eating to much (oke Tilly is too fat but then have we to lock her a lone...)
We give them 2 or 3 times in a day hay (3 times when it is colder).
And all the time branches...

But I belief, that it can be a good system for 1 horse.
Here shouldn't it work 1 for all the donkeys even when they can eat all the time...
I don't know...
And i'm scared for the ear marks of the goats.
The wire is to thin...

And us bull should like it to play with it, but he plays with all...

But if they are other people, with other ideas it is welcom maybe it can help someone else....

I even don't know if my system works for large horses.... :D

The framework with plastic interior is common here. I don't use them, though I'd like to ... but for composting for my garden rather than hay racks.

The reason? They are used to transport very toxic chemicals and even cleaning them is dangerous.

I like the trashcan idea. Very creative. We have thought about making one like this: http://www.grazingbox.com/howitworks.htm

the trashcan is called by us a "kliko"
we put our garbage in it. A grey one for waste what is comming out the normal household and a green one for food and garden waste.
A blue one for papers and there will come one for plastic i think. We have to collect it now in a bag. But this is not realy working for the people who have to collect it in the lorry.
The we have a bottlebank in the village were you have to put the different coloured glas in different holes. In the supermarket you can bring your frying fat.....

yes the gouverment knows how to get people bussy with waste :rambo:

You have to tide the kliko on the fence otherwise the horses go play with it :D

This is our way of giving hay:

ImageImage

Due to the branches the horses don't trample it into the mud and also don't pee on it - and I can make small piles in different places so that they get some extra movement as well.

When the ground is completely dry, I spread it in about 20-30 mini piles all over the pasture.
