Very interesting the Buddhist remarks - Buddhist technique seem very big in Psychology (Mindfulness etc) just now.......... if it's any use, the technique I've seen practised with considerable success is based on the "mind only accepting positive commands" theory..i.e., you always use a positive form of control on yourself "I'm really enjoying controlling my habit" "I am a person who can put aside cigarettes" etc - it takes a bit of practice to knock the negatives out of every sentence you give yourself, but, as I said, I've seen it work, for whatever reason!
Hang in there!

I read a book (The Easy Way To Quit Smoking by Allen Carr), and in it, one of the key elements of giving up cigarettes is to understand how the addiction actually works, and really understanding that you aren't "giving anything up".

Difficult, I know!

One of the girls I work with said that the Allen Carr book was brilliant....she used it when she gave up smoking and hasn't touched a cigarette since....so I'm off to see if i can find a copy! lol

I can tell you that the book is so effective that I stopped half way through and refused to read the rest because my brain was screaming at me that I wasn't ready to quit! How wierd is that?

I'm off to the doctor on Wednesday for the Chantix.

I AM READY. Then I'll finish reading the book!

I have just ordered a second hand copy so with any luck it'll be with me some time next week. Fingers crossed it works for me!

Glen,

What you said about being afraid to try because you don't really believe you can succeed really hit home with me. It's self-sabotage of the worst kind as fear is such a huge killer of motivation and hope, whether your trying to conquer an addiction or trying to work with horses.

You will stop smoking just because if nothing else Freckles and Laska need you to be healthy. So keep fighting back, you are a 'cigeratte- warrior' and Iknow you will make to the other side.

So, Today I woke early. Grrr! Its now 09h20 and I've been awake since 06h00. I've had 3 smokes already, but I'll get better!

I want that book! I need to go surfing to look for a copy!

 I didn't mean to start a trend when I started this thread! I think it's great!

So, I seem to have successfully dropped to about half my "normal" consumption. YAY!

Now I can start on reducing that!

My skin is getting grumpy about these patches - I need to stick them somewhere else for a few days!

Heehee, the dragon is becoming a gekko!

yay...great dragon glen. So how's the stopping smoking going now? Is it becoming an easier?

I have just received the allen carr's easy way to stop smoking book....the odd thing was that part of me didn't want to read it. I guess the smoking part of me must think the book is going to work and panicked....lol But I am soldering on and have read a few chapters already....will let you know how it goes and if it works for me!! :D
