look out of the quality of the leather when you prefer not to spent much money. If you save some money and buy a good one is much more worth it ;)

So true! And if you look at the prices for good quality leather, you'll soon find out that the prices for good leatherwork are not so exorbitant as they might seem at first ;).

Thank you so much for this link, Volker. I have ordered a cavesson from there for the huge Pan pony, and I think it is beautiful beyond words.

I have to admit that I wouldn't really mind if Lena didn't like the cavesson, because in that case it would keep hanging in my living room forever ;)

Yes, it's beautiful, isn't it? It's the same one I got and I love it. It just doesn't look as clean anymore. I guess I shouldn't allow Mucki to roll in the sand with it ;)

I don't really see the advantage compared to a normal halter (except that there are rings on the nose piece). But in terms of stability or sitting tight on the head it does not look as if there was a lot of difference to a halter, does it?

Oh, and I have renamed this thread, because "best bitless" might give people who come to the forum in order to find information about different kinds of bitless bridles a wrong idea about what they will find in this thread. ;)

Ali, I can tell you the points that I looked out for and which brought me to the decision of buying that particular caveson. Maybe it will make your search easier.
I was looking for a light model - that means no fixed iron nose part - as I was buying it for riding. For lungeing, I have the heavier type with nose iron, as it is much more stable when there's pulling from a square angle.
The second thing of importance to me was that there is no throat latch, but a latch around the cheeks to prevent the cheek pieces from being pulled over the eyes. I would look out for that in every caveson or sidepull.
And last but not least I was looking for a caveson where I could attach the reins as low on the nose band as possible, again that the reins would not go over the eyes, when the head is low.

The caveson we were talking about is originally made by Marjoman - they have an English version of their page here:
http://www.marjoman.net/en/
The caveson is this one:

The caveson has the right size (big WB), fits fine and looks very nice. I just have to pierce a hole through the throatlatch, which is still a bit too wide. But apart from that a really good quality, supple leather. Here some pics:

I'm curious about our first riding session with the new caveson.

Big Thanks to Romy :giveflower:
