I just wanted to share with you me newest creation in horse equipment. Since I was never really satisfied with leadropes you can buy - I'm very picky about quality, material, weight, length and price of course ;) - I went and built one on my own.
Last weekend Anna and I field-tested it and since we are very happy with the result so far - I'll show you some pictures :).
It was a joy to use - both for humans and horses!

It is a hemp rope, 11mm diameter, approximately 5 meters in length. That makes it light and thin - so you can easily hold all the loops in one hand. It can be used with a halter or around the neck.

Looking nice! :) And your horses look so great in it as well, I always think there is something so beautiful about horses in cordeos instead of a headstall. :f:

I would just be worried that the material might hurt my hands if there was an accident and the horse suddenly pulled. Do you have any experiences with this? Or do you wear gloves?

Yeah, you're so right - they look so beautiful when their heads are free! I generally never understood why so many people love to dress their horses in all kinds of stuff. They are so perfect like they are! No need for any extra adornments... :f:

Well you might have a point here - I never had one of those ropes pulled through my hand, so I just don't know yet. But I can say for sure, that the best horsemanship rope won't prevent burnt hands when it is pulled through. I tested that on several occasions already . Since then I use to carry gloves on longer walks...

A hemp rope typically looks (and feels) terribly rough when you buy it. But there are ways to get it smooth rather quickly (like running it through a set of steel rings), and they get more and more smooth and soft with use. With time, they acquire a kind of patina and become very nice to handle. Some people don't like the smell of them though. I just love their natural touch and smell... :)
