I want to buy a new saddle for my arabian x welsh mare of 1.41.

At the moment I have a barefoot cheyenne (treeless saddle).
But I find this saddle not that nice to ride with.

Options for the saddle I want to buy:

Arabian Saddle
Ijslandic Saddle
Spanish Saddle

I'm looking for a saddle for a maximum price of €400,- or $550

I find it important that the saddle is not heavy and doesn't force you in a seat.
So that a natural posture is possible.

(don't look at my English, I know it's crap, but I hope you will understand)

I love the iberian saddles. Super comfy. Look divine and horses always seem to feel much better under them.

I rode in a nice Iberian saddle the other day. Felt comfy and secure, but it was a little TOO secure. I couldn't post at all! :D

Hmm you bring up a good point. I had not thought about the tall, rigid pommel & cantle being restrictive. My goal someday is to get a Startrekk Espaniola, but would I have trouble posting or say leaning forwards on a trail ride? Etc.

Iberian saddles still seem like a super comfy option to me in general and I'd love to own one. This coming from the person with a super minimalist saddle now (no pommel OR cantle! :D ).

I have tried in the mean time a couple of saddles, but they all didn't fit.
I have tried:
-islandic saddle which was too smal
- arabian saddle which was crap
- treeless spanish saddle innova; was lovely to ride but didn't fit because it was too long
- Espaniola spanish saddle of Ludomar; was too wide and long

So I'm still looking for a saddle. I'm thinking of the Startrekk Espaniola, but than I have to find a used saddle so that it's not that expencive. Or maybe a startrekk comfort or what do you think of the freemax evo or classic.

I used to have a Barefoot Cheyenne, but I didn't feel secure in it, and I fell off Fanny too many times. I sold it almost brand new, even though I'd owned it for over three years. I lost confidence in getting on her.

I sold my Cheyenne in the spring of 2011 and ordered a Rebecca Treeless saddle, which arrived in Sept. 2011.

The main reason I bought it was because the girth has a "Y" rigging ("V" girth). Fanny has a long back and is very wide. The back of my Cheyenne was popping up and I felt like the whole back of the saddle was swinging from side to side whenever she would turn. The Rebecca saddle doesn't lift or swing because it is held down by the back 'arm' of the "Y".

Also, because of her shape, I had issues with the saddle slipping side to side. Not just the back swinging, but slipping from side to side. I mount from a mounting block, and the saddle would still slip when I got on, no matter how tightly I did the girth.

I feel much more secure in the Rebecca saddle, and Fanny moves much better in it. Perhaps that is because I am a better passenger in this saddle, due to feeling more secure?

I did notice that girthing Fanny is hard, because sometimes trying to squeeze her into the next hole on the girth just got her mad. So I had my new saddle modified by switching the girthing system to a 'western' system, making it easier to find the right tightness. Hope that talking of western saddles is okay in a dressage forum :funny: . I am fighting with softening up the leather cinch straps before I can put it on and actually get in the saddle.

The spanish saddles appeal to me, too  .
