I still wasn't really content with the barefoot because long rides are not possible without hurting Beau's back a bit, so....
I had this guy from the netherlands come over: www.vaquero.nl
and he makes hand made western saddles, so he came to fit and write everything down, it's going to be very expensive (over 2500€) but it is supposed to be fantastic...
It will be a hand made rawhide-wooden tree with a A fork and a cheyenne cantle, with padding in the seat and a big horn, in oiled leather with silver cocho's and just a fine line in the leather, not too much fancy stuff because of the price, the girth-rings are put in a separate piece of leather and there will be another piece over it to protect the stirrups.

I have to wait for about 10 weeks for the result, I hope it will be the solution to everything...

Thank you Karen, 10 weeks is going to be long :) but I'll be so proud when I have a saddle that feels great for Beau! Beau liked the man too, so that was a good sign :)

Ooooh, I think he's gonna look so pretty! I went to the website and had a browse ... excellent workmanship from what I could see. How exciting! Ouch! Poor wallet!

Oh, Barbara, how exciting!

These look gorgeous!

(And the Santa Barbara style caught my eye -- I live about a half an hour from Santa Barbara in California!)

Can't wait to see pictures when you get it...and oh, well, what's money?!?

:-)

All the best,
Leigh

What's money, indeed? - the original owner of the rawhide didn't ask for any, after all.......

Indeed Rita. But on this forum it is everyone's free choice whether or not one buys or uses leather.

If you would like to offer everyone excellent alternatives for leather, you are very welcome of course to do that in the Lifestyle section. :)
