Your dogs are stunning! Beautiful... we have a Malamute cross and so I have a soft spot for those Northern breeds! Your huskies have such expressive faces. Do you breed, or rescue, or both? Sledding?

Thanks, Bianca. I think they are gorgeous! It's more dogs than we planned on, but I am often alone so maybe it was fate! Also, they keep me too busy to feel lonely!

Hi Hannah,
Er, lets see ..
I had a miniature Fox Terrier that was a bit of a slut, so we got a litter of puppies - Callisto is one of them - there were 3 perfect Jack Russells, one perfect Maltese, and this "miniature Aussie Sheperd"
Then, our "big dog" had to be put down as he went aggressive and attacked me (from pain in his teeth from ripping branches of the peach tree) ... :( so we got Zena at the SPCA - very traumatised dog - used to lie down and wee herself if she heard the word "No" even a whisper! :x but she's better now.
Then my son got a little Husky X GSD but she was poisoned at 7 months old ... she suffered 4 days as the vet felt there might be a chance to save her. She died in my son's arms in the sun one morning ... I would like to feed the poisoners some of their own medicine because in that week 7 dogs in our street died in agony!
Then we "found" Storm at a roadside "buy a puppy from a puppy-mill" place and couldn't resist that face! Besides, we hate puppy-mills! So we paid quite a lot for her.
Then we "found" an advertisement to "please give a good home" to a male Siberian, so we took Hustler.
Storm and Hustler had a "love at first sight" meeting and have been inseperable since.
We bred one litter from them, and all the pups found homes (we weren't cheap as people who pay lots for dogs usually look after them well) but I did recently repossess 2 pups as their owners had lost control of them. One of them is already rehomed locally - she "visits" once a week to play with her family and relearn manners from her Mom. Actually, she's here today! The other pup might well stay here, as he was my "favourite" anyway!
I have "trained" Storm and Hustler to pull bicycles (Bike-jorning I think its called) but it's tooooo hot here to do it - even at night, so they are not fit now! Also, we spayed Storm when her pups were delivered as she needed a Ceaserian Section - her womb was atonic - and we didn't plan on any more babies. When she weaned the pups she got very chunky in the space of two weeks and we are struggling to lose it because it is hard to exercise dogs here without them overheating.
We do have a massive garden for them to play in though, and they are active, so it's not as bad as it could be!

Wow, it sounds like you've given a ton of dogs a really fabulous home. And bike-joring, that sounds fun!!

Oh, yes, aren't Husky puppies the CUTEST things imaginable?!? Maybe I'm biased, but I do believe Husky/Malamute puppies are some of THE cutest dogs out there!

Thanks, Hannah.

Most of the dogs and cats we've had have somehow come to us. We find it very difficult to say "No" to a creature that needs help! It has caused us considerable inconvenience at times, but also gifted us with great joy!

Absolutely! Even the vet who delivered them got sooo attached! We all had a hard time when they "left home"

I find Huskies show more personality than other breeds, I can't imagine my life without them. I only know the other Northern breeds by picture and reputation. I have to admit, I've "neglected" them a little since I got Freckles ...

My bond with Storm is very strong, while Hustler has chosen Paul, my husband. We're having some behaviour problems with Hustler at the moment as Paul works far away, and is out of South Africa for 2 months at a time. He came home last Saturday, and Hustler is making sure he knows its just not good enough!

Just a sequence of pictures I took soon after he started coming to me most of the time.

With some comments I added which may or may not be true, but I think they're close ...

Hi, Barbara

Glad you enjoyed it! I thought it was funny that he balked on the day that I visited him with a camera instead of carrots!

Gosh, Tanja!

Freckles did all the work while I just clicked, and Photobucket has a way to compile pics and video with text and music that is pretty much idiot-proof!

But I enjoy the compliment very much

Tanja. I was just "correcting" the colours, sharpness and light. Also I cropped away some of the backgrounds.
