Hello my name is Alex and I have a 9yr old grey paso fino named Aikido.
sorry I cant seem to get a photo on here but here is a little back ground of Aikido

Aikido has been show at Largo Paso Fino shows since he was 3yrs till he was 6 or 7. When he turned 7, because of the lack of a relationship with his owner, ill saddle fit, and being sent away multiple times to trainers that was too aggressive for him being a super sensitive horse, he turned sour. He would rear and spin and refuse to go past certain spots. He was then given to me when last summer when he was 8 and I have found he is scared of spurs and whips. when someone moves a whip when I am on him he is about to have a heart attack. I have found he no longer like to show ring and so I have decided after this season is over he is going to be retired from the show for awhile while I work on creating a lasting bond with him.

I have had lessons for dressage and have retrained a barrel horse to be an all around show horse. I have broke out and started a horse in dressage. But I want my horse to work with me because he wants to not because I make him. I have done Parrelli but its still not allowing the horse to have any freedom. I also think AND will also help me develop better as a rider and person emotionally and physically. I have fibromyalgia and it has created me to be go into a shell and over reactive and lack confidence in my riding.

Quote:
there is one principle that should never be abandoned when training a horse, namely, that the rider must learn to control himself before he can control his horse. This is the basic, most important principle to be preserved in equitation.

Welcome, Alex! :)

Great that you want to give Aikido a better life, and I think that if you want to work with his initiative and free will, you might be in the right place here as that is what this forum is all about.

Looking forward to reading about your adventures with him. If you want to post pictures, we have a thread that explains how it is done: How to post a picture

Best wishes,
Romy
