Hi Everyone,

My name is Kim Sturgeon and I can't believe it's taken me so long to find this amazing forum. I was recently highlighted as one of eight interviewees in a book called Eqxpressionists. Several of the others mentioned this forum in their interviews and I'm so glad they did!

I have three horses: a 20 year old Arabian gelding named Shoki, a 10 year old QH/stock paint dun mare named Puck, and a 3 year old red dun QH (foal of Puck) named Tempo. I studied PNH for years and then (thanks to my husband) found clicker training. Today I use all four quadrants of operant conditioning but use positive reinforcement as the basis of my relationship with my horses.

There's so much more I could write, but will share more as appropriate to specific topics and strings. In the meant time, if anyone is interested, we have documented our positive reinforcement training journey with Tempo from her birth today on Youtube. You can search under my youtube ID: Ksturg8929.

I look forward to sharing and learning with everyone here!!

Hi Kim, welcome!! :)

So great that you have found us and I am looking forward to getting to know you and you horses. One of the videos in your channel has been posted here in the forum last year or so, it's very nice to get to know you in person. :)

And our forum was mentioned in interviews for a book, yes? :ieks: Wow, sounds like we are becoming famous. :funny:

Warm Regards,
Romy

Yes, the book is called Eqxpressionists and was edited/published by Kali Vanagas. She and her fiance, Les Freeman, run PonyPros (http://www.ponypros.net). They are awesome! Anyway, both Ivy Schexnayder and Karen Clousten, who are also featured in the book, listed this forum/site among their inspirations! The book is also now available on Amazon.com.

Hello, Kim. Welcome here.

Awesome that we are in someone's book! :funny: Oh dear, would that be fame or notoriety?

Anyhow, I am looking forward to reading more about you and your herd. :D And seeing pictures, of course.

Hi, Kim, and a hearty welcome from me, too.

Fabulous that you've come -- just watched your video of your tarp play with Tempo and it's absolutely grand.

And Ivy and Karen were featured in a book and didn't tell us!?!! Oooooh, they're gonna be in trouble...
:funny:

They both have wonderful journals going, BTW...

Looking forward to hearing lots more from you.

All the best,
Leigh

I would love to post some photos, but I have to admit... I can't figure it out!! I tried linking to photos on my Facebook site and also to albums I have on Shutterfly but in both cases (wanted to upload avatar for starters), I got an error message saying the url wasn't appropriate (or something like that). If someone can send me step-by-step instructions and a list of urls that would work, that would be great.

Hi Kim,

We watched a great video of you and Tempo tonight on youtube, Chasing the Tiger. Tempo looks so frisky and fun. I think I have to start some games like that with my little filly Selene, as she has that same bouncy playfulness, but it is a bit intimidating to turn around and see her wanting to play with me like that, as she thinks I'm the tarp :funny: A little bit dangerous, as I don't bounce back so easily.

Looking forward to watching and reading more of your story

Kim, I'm SOOOOOOOoooo glad you joined us here! I have always loved videos of Tempo. Your videos were part of the inspiration for "chasing the tiger" along with others (Brenda for one, and our own Donald, who also used a tarp!). Welcome! :applause: :applause:

Hi Kim!
I'm a lurker on the forum but love it! Always great inspiration to be found. I'm glad all you AND people are excited about the book. I hope to interview more of you for volume 3!
The book is called EQxpressionists and is about playing with horses as artistic expression.
