Well im still busy looking around to see what sort of interesting things i can find here.

I live in Gordon's Bay in the Western Cape area of South Africa. I am 27yrs old and live with my husband and my parents on a smallholding.
We currently own:
3 miniature horses
1 Saddler 25yrs
1 nooitgedachter x type 20yrs
1 lippizaner x 20yrs?
1 SA warmblood 8yrs (my new baby) and her 3 week old foal
1 Vlaamperd x 2yrs

I also have a friends horse in livery with me
1 TB 4yrs

Basically i started to get involved in horses about 3 yrs ago.
We bought the smallholding and decided since we had the stables we would buy myself and my mom a riding horse each. Mom had ridden late into her 20s but not since and i had never really ridden before.

So we found my first horse a rescued TB mare 16yrs old. This mare was the Sweetest thing and even after being nearly starved to death by humans she was still rather affectionate.
She unfortunatly coliced badly about 6 months after we got her and had to be PTS....this was possibly the WORST day of my life!!!

In the meantime we had sort of started to collect more rescue and abused cases and so we had 2 horses left, neither of which was rideable. SO we decided to look for a horse for me to ride again......and ofcourse another rescue case popped up.
A nooitgedachter x pony who was heavily in foal to a vlaamperd.
Our hearts broke to see her in the state she was in so we bought her there and then (even though she was not suitable as a horse for me).
3 days after we moved her to us she foaled down a beautiful little filly.

When we eventually weaned the foal we decided that OLGA the Nooitie was probably strong enough to handle a bit of hacking ..... well we have been riding ever since then about a year and a bit ago.
Olga challenges me as she is spooky (done wonders for my seat) and she does not trust me (and vice versa)

ok off to work now......will post some more about me later

Welcome, Simone!! :D

Wow, your horses sound very interesting. Do you do any training with the miniature horses, too? I would love to see some pictures of them, I so adore small ponies and this year I finally fulfilled my dream of buying a pony myself. :D

I hope you will enjoy our forum and your workshop with Josepha this weekend, but I am sure you will! :)

Warm Regards,
Romy

Hi Simone,
I am just down the road from you (Hermanus), well in terms of everyone else anyway!!!!
Hopefully we will get to meet next week. I am just trying to organise myself to get the days free to come.
How's this rain we are having?! I can't even get to my horse right now as the road is closed off due to flooding.....
It sounds like you are lucky enough to have the room to take in all those "rescue" horses.....
Looking forward to meeting you and hearing about your little herd!
Best
Annette

A kids party on the friday afternoon and an end of year work weekend friday night to sunday......so trying to figure out how to fit it all in! If I don't see you on the thurs, we can always meet some other time and I am sure you won't say no to a day trip to Hermanus!!!!? But hopefully I will see you thurs.......

Welcome, Simone!

What a crew you've got! :-)

I'm looking forward to hearing more about you!

Oh -- your driving plans made me wonder if you've heard of Simon Mulholland's Saddlechariot
(http://naturaldriving.co.uk/content_2scuk.php) -- he developed it using his mini horse Henry as a model. I covet one!

I know one or two people on the list have one -- am not remembering who at the moment!

But, anyway, welcome!

Best,
Leigh
