Here I am at last getting around to introducing myself... Hi to the friends I know here already :D I'm Vanessa, and my horses are Dante and Orlando, two middle-aged OTTBs whom I adore.

I, like some others here :), really started on this road when I discovered NHE, which was life-changing for me in that it articulated so much of what I felt uncomfortable with in traditional horsemanship... and so here I am, eighteen months later, completely committed to the principles of teaching horses with no force and as little tack as possible.

I love the cheerfulness and generosity of spirit here on the AND forum. And I think it's incredibly exciting the way these ideas are spreading -- I watched the video of Josepha and the recent AND riding clinic/demonstration just now and felt thrilled at the way people were obviously so interested :D

I'll post some pictures of my gorgeous boys as soon as I can...

"Off Track ThoroughBreds"

And a big welcome to lucky Vanessa. You have two, mind you, of my most favorite of all breeds of horses. Not just one, but TWO. I'm envious.

Please post pics when you can. And enjoy your AND experience. I have gotten so very much from it.

A warm welcome, Vanessa! (And what a beautiful name)

How exciting to have more OTTBs here (I also have two -- a gelding, Caspian, who was trained but never raced, and a mare, Deo, who did race). Did your horses race?

I am looking forward to hearing more from you, and seeing the pictures of your lovely horses. :D

Gosh, such a warm welcome! Thank you everyone :D

Here are some photos of my two, taken a couple of months ago. Orlando is the chestnut, Dante the bay. The little girl is Celia, my daughter (3 1/2 now) and the dog is Sophy!

My horses are on grazing about 25 minutes from where I live in town. It's nice, although it's on a busy road. There's an airbase across the road, as well as a golf course, so the boys are completely used to sky divers, helicopters, and noisy military planes taking off and landing in their vicinity...

I think I've done the photo uploading wrong... is there a way I can have the photos showing on the page...?

Thanks so much, Amiro, for fixing up the pics :D And thank you Kim and Glen for your nice words about my family... Sophy's actually 4 1/2 now, but being a German shepherd she's still very bouncy and enthusiastic, maturity still hasn't quite reached her yet

Makana,

yes, Orlando raced until he was 8. Dante was trained, but he never raced, I think. I adore (OT)TBs -- their courage awes me -- the more so since I've come to recognize it in more than just the most obvious ways. I'm still finding my way around here, but I'm looking forward to reading the training diaries of your OTTBs...

I'm going to be even luckier soon, I hope... another gorgeous gift horse 8) He's a racing casualty, and the vet doesn't think he'll be up to the rigours of eventing now either so he's being given away.
