Zephyr, are you feeling better? Ralph, are you making that DVD for me?

Impatient? Me? Never! :D

Hello Josepha, just found out about your flu now. :ieks: I just wanted to reassure you that there is no malaria in our area here, and as Glen said there is no risk in Richards Bay either. Did you get your results back? I hope you are already better. You had quite a hectic schedule in Cape Town and the aircondition in the aeroplane doesn't help. I think your immune system was just a bit stressed.
I am glad to hear you and Ralph will be back soon! :applause:

Hello to everybody else, so nice to see all the South Africans here :)

Cheers
Kerstin

Thanx ladies!

I am sorry for not telling you any sooner, but I was a bit very busy. (still are alas).

I do not have malaria of course so Ralph is reassured :)

I wanted to ask all of you who where at the clinic and those who organised it if you could either write down in short what benefit you had from the lessons or collect writings just like it.

Ralph then can publish on my website. This will surely help getting enough people together to fund the next trip, I think :)

Hi Josepha, will definitely write something and remind Simone and Roxanne too.

You should see the mountain above Gordons Bay - it is all in flames!!! We have lived in a smoke cloud since Saturday night and this evening the fire broke over the top of the mountain. Apparently the entire Kogel Bay Biosphere has burnt - some of it is good because fynbos needs fire every 12 to 15 years and this was about 12 years old, but we have a roaring South Easter wind and the fire moves so fast!
I believe some houses are being threatened and Roxannes boyfriend, who is a paramedic and on duty at the fire, heard that 2 firemen had died. So sad.

Anyway need to chat to Sandy now about Irish, she is doing a session with him on Thursday.

Oh, Janet -- I live in fire country, too, in southern California.

We just had 3 big fires that burnt hundreds of homes in the last month -- I know several people who lost their houses.

Those kind of wild fires are so magnificent and SO scary! They move so quickly.

Hope everyone you know is safe -- I'm so sorry to hear about the fire fighters.

All the best,
Leigh

Janet,
I hope the fire doesn't reach you guys. We had a fire last year that came right past our house, at one point I really thought our house was going to burn! The farm that Morgan stays on was completely burnt last year when an electricity cable blew over in gale force winds in the night. Luckily the two horses that were there at the time had the presence to jump out of the camp and run and were found the next day back in the camp unhurt. It is very terrifying.
The only positive thing is the fynbos, today the farm is beautiful and the botanical society has been visiting regularly to check on new plants that have not been seen in a very long time.
I hope it is all over soon for you guys as I know how it stresses the horses.

Thank goodness we seem safe and the fire is less tonight, but still lots of pockets all over, some a little closer. The wind is not as strong, which is a help. 3 houses were gutted and a number damaged - seems puny compared to the decimation in California, but still very, very real and frightening.
Anette I remember that fire last year - how awful. You are so lucky though, my friend lost her champion horse a while back when he stepped on an exposed cable - thieves had stolen the rest - it was so sad.

I don't think a fire like this that burns close to you is ever puny!!!

Your pictures are mesmerizing, Janet...wow.

Am glad you're okay! (Though how horrifying about your friend's horse.)

Best,
Leigh

Leigh it was such a freak accident with my friends horse. He stepped on the exposed live cable and being shod, he was electrocuted. Probably a 1-in-a-million happening.

Thank goodness today there are just a few smouldering pockets on our side. The fire is now burning in the reserve where there are no houses and possibly still near the seaside village of Rooi Els, but the worst seems to be past. We have been amazed by the offers of help should we need it - we have 9 horses, including 3 miniatures and a 1 month foal so we would need help. So many friends have sent messages offering help - it is wonderful that people think of others. Once again it highlights the fact that we must be prepared and have plans for disasters -even if we are just a small private yard. :friends:

Janet,
I had no idea the fire was that bad. Glad to hear that things are settling down now. I heard about your friends horse, I couldn't believe it at the time, all for a few cents for the copper.

What a scary sight!
I haven't heard anything for example on the news.
When it burns in the US they always tell.

Luckily you all seem allright...
