I make what I guess you could call wearable art ;)
Making horsehair into jewelry.
Here's a bracelet I made for a friend from her QH mare's and Icelandic geldings'
tail hair

Wonderful braiding, and so nice and tight!

In the Netherlands there is a company that also makes such bracelets from your horses hair, but what I wonder is how the hair stays smooth? I once braided a strand of Blacky's hair that I found in the paddock and those hairs started to crack within a few weeks. How does such a bracelet stay intact?

I like it how the strands have different colors in your bracelet - I'm afraid that with Blacky and Sjors you would see the difference between which black hair is whose! :funny: :D

Hi Miriam :)
The way I keep the hair tight is that I make what you call "pulls " first (up to 20 individual strands twisted together and tied off at both ends) Then I braid them all very tightly together. In that bracelet I made it out of 3 different horses' hair...I have done some w/ up to 6 different horses in one bracelet.
Horse hair is so beautiful and such a strong fiber...if done right they can last for a long time. Here's another bracelet & earrings I did for some one who's mare passed away
