They're not all particulary good yet but hopefully we're improving, like we are with AND :D

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

I've been on holidays for ages which means I finally get time to draw and read etc. :) I'm back at uni in a couple of weeks and I end up spending all my free time with the ponies.

Pictionary is always tricky. I just wish had spent some of the time I was drawing hundreds of horses as a little kid, drawing people or trees or other animals... :D

deviant art is just a website where you can upload your artwork and look at other peoples...
There is some very beautiful artwork on there if you have a look around.

Zoe gave me a huge canvas and I finally painted it. Its Poppy rearing :).

Image

Its the longest I have ever spent on a painting and the first time I made a decent attempt at a background. I really don't like painting trees, or grass, or fields.

I did it from a really bad reference photo (that cuts her ears off) and realised afterwards I shouldn't have put the tree behind her nose because her head disappears into the background.

Oh wow, Marina! :) When I read in Machteld's topic that you can't draw or paint trees, I so recognized this, because trees have always been one of the hardest things for me to draw as well, next to rocks. And then I saw your trees, and actually I think they are great, just like the grass. Poppy anyway, but then I already knew what a talented horse painter you are. :f:

It is amazing! Do you have a larger version of it posted anywhere?? I love it!

"What to do with the background" has always been my bugaboo. Trees are hard, and just figuring out how to balance the background with the main image is hard work. You have done beautiful work! :applause: :applause: :applause:

Glad you like it.
Zoe is doing an art course at uni and she is always on at me to paint backgrounds properly (and not just draw green clouds on brown sticks :)) but I really don't have the patience for it :P. There was a show on TV a while ago and a guy did a speed landscape painting and it looked so good by the end (and he made it look so easy!).

And a bit bigger - http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/ ... 4psjgh.jpg
