You know, you do not interfere with him, he is so emotionally calm and relaxed. It is almost meditative to watch the videos!
There are little things you can do to encourage a little more roundness, again without fiddling with his head...he finds the postion now and again...he is so close. The fact that his mind is already exactly where you need it to be is SO NICE. What a lovely horse he is.
Others can probably offer more useful things, but if you do a little more shoulder in, just some light touches with your inside leg, and encourage him to drop his nose...not necessarily his head height, mind you...but to ask him to just let the poll relax a wee bit more.
Begin at a standstill, you can can ask him to bring his nose to one side, then take up a little soft contact, on and off, on and off...lightly on that side, while giving a little pressure with your inside leg on the same side, on and off, on and off, also lightly, and reward him when he drops his nose. Do this on both sides. Do this first at a standstill until he's sure he knows what you mean, then at a walk (a shoulder in), then later at a trot, he will begin to offer it at a canter, I'm sure. But the cue you develop to remind him to drop his nose and round, will be a light touch with your inside leg, at any gait.
I am quite sure, that if you can encourage him to find his "soft place", then you will also begin to feel his suspension. When he's in his soft place, you can ask him to trot a little bigger or more forward, then transition to the slower trot, and in there, somewhere, you will have that suspension and the roundness he's almost finding already.
Now you say he is coming back from an abcess, so maybe you already know all this, and maybe he was already there? If so, just disregard please!!!
The two of you are just lovely to watch.
