My own language skills are so lacking (even English at times), that I am in constant awe of the incredible understanding of English folks from other countries here on AND demonstrate.

As for keeping, heck, we even say, "the clock is good keeping time." This means it's accurate.

Crazy language, English. Such a confusing pile from other languages.

We almost became a German speaking country as the official language during the founding of our government and nation.

Understanding another language's idiom is always fascinating. I keep a little book on Mandarin sayings that have English equivalents. And Chinese is an idiom rich language, very. So it's quite entertaining.

now you wrote this, i was a few days ago by my dads birthday.
He got a book with a dutch dialect called "Westfries woordenboek" for those who can understand dutch.
In this book are words translated or explain the meaning of the word.
It is normal dutch but only spoken in a little part of the Netherlands.
My father came out of this part and he is always interested in the history.
Then he found the book. I have read a few pages in it. And was very funny. I could hear my grandma speaking in her old days.
My dad don't speak it because my mom don'like it.
But it is very funny to hear if you not used to the sound.
