Just found a talk by Temple Grandin in the Authors@Google series where she discusses her book "Animals Make Us Human: Creating the Best Life for Animals". I have not watched it yet but thought that some of you might be interested.

P.S.: And here is one from the TED channel: The world needs all kinds of minds

Romy, thanks for the link, I'll watch it for sure. I also was able to borrow a copy from a friend of the movie about Temple Grandin and will report about after I've watched in the next couple of days. I'm enjoying reading the book "Animals in Translation" and while I don't agree with everything there is a lot of good information in it.

I saw the movie on HBO (twice now!). I LOVE it. It is a brilliant movie. It's not a blockbuster, but they did such a good job of explaining how Temple Grandin not only views the world around her, but how she processes what she sees. Clarie Danes did an incredible job of portraying Temple Grandin. Even the way she speaks.

I can imagine that there are people in the world that don't like Temple Grandin, but she is definitely one of those rare, brilliant people that the world needs.

Karen, I agree the movie is special and very well acted, unfortunately I missed the last 20 minutes because the DVD was defective.
I'm considering buying it.

I watched the Horse Boy last week.
Is also a beautiful film about an authistic kid and his father.
It is more a documentary of their trip from the US to Mongolia where they meet several sjamanes trying to heal the child.
Horses are the main sparkle for the father to do so: the child will only be free when he can ride a horse on his own.

Temple Grandin herself speaks a little bit in there.

Very good film to watch, at least if you can stand the (real) scenes of the kid crying out loud very often.
It made me understand how difficult life can be for a parent with an authistic child.

I'm listening to the book on tape. Looking forward to seeing the movie afterwards.

I've read the Horse Boy book. I didn't realize there was a documentary. Where did you find it? I really enjoyed the book despite people telling me that it was incredibly boring and would love to see the documentary.

The Horse Boy was available for free, in it's entirety on the internet. It's not now...at least, you can't watch the whole thing in one stretch at decent quality. They are supposed to be releasing it dvd, but so far the website says it will only be available in the US. I hope it's available worldwide in a reasonable amount of time. It's a great documentary.

My neighbour downloaded it for me, also for free.
I think it was on the above link, which I passed on to him.
But he might have found another (maybe better or easier to download) site - he's quite a pro in these things.

Good luck!
